Transfer of Domestic Workers to Private Sector Ends in Kuwait
Kuwait City, 13th September 2024: Transfer of Domestic Workers to Private Sector Ends
Ministry of Kuwait, The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) has announced that Ministerial Resolution No. (6) of 2024, which allowed domestic workers in Kuwait to transfer to private sector employment, has officially expired on Thursday September 12, 2024.
This resolution, introduced earlier this year, temporarily allowed domestic workers to shift from household jobs to positions within the private sector under certain conditions. However, as of today, the policy is no longer in effect, and there is no confirmation yet on whether it will be renewed or replaced by a similar initiative.
Impact on Domestic Workers:
The end of this policy marks the conclusion of an important pathway for domestic workers who were seeking opportunities beyond household work. During the resolution’s active period, many individuals were able to transition into private sector roles, offering them greater career mobility—a significant shift from previous limitations.
According to reports, over 30K domestic workers took advantage of the opportunity to transfer to private sector jobs during the period when the resolution was in effect.
PAM has not yet outlined any new plans or policies for similar transfers, leaving the future uncertain for workers hoping for more employment options.
